Experience authentic American heritage in Loudoun’s towns and villages. Each town offers a taste of Americana, a glimpse into days past and a welcome respite from “Everyplace, U.S.A.” Founded in 1758, Leesburg is Loudoun’s county seat. With its quaint historic district, Leesburg boasts great shopping and dining options, as well as numerous historic sites, including Gen. George C. Marshall’s home, Dodona Manor, the nearby Ball’s Bluff Civil War Battlefield, historic Morven Park and Oatlands, a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Each year, the annual Court and Market Days showcases Leesburg’s past.

Middleburg is exemplified by refined and sophisticated country charm, and it is the nation’s horse and hunt capital. Founded in 1787, Middleburg has always served as a playground for notables, including President Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, F. Scott Fitzgerald and others. Today, visitors discover a tree-lined village of inns, boutiques and gourmet shops. The 20th-century railroad town of Purcellville, a restored mill town turned Loudoun destination for restaurants, anchors a small shopping district. Lovettsville’s German heritage is celebrated each September during its popular Oktoberfest. Hamilton exemplifies small-town charm with its Victorian homes and tree-lined streets, and Round Hill’s musical heritage is displayed monthly at its bluegrass jam. Loudoun’s smallest town, Hillsboro, features historic architecture built before1893. Loudoun’s historic villages include Aldie, with its historic mill; Lucketts and Bluemont, which host authentic country fairs; Philomont, centered around its country store; and Waterford, founded in 1733 and now a National Historic Landmark, where each October there is a popular home tour and crafts fair.
