7 nice spot, great beer, ok tour, takeways a bit steep
Allagash Brewing operates in a lovely building in a business park, which looks about as odd as it probably sounds. The tasting room is small but comfortable, and the beer is extraordinarily well-made in small batches: the bourbon-barrel beers here are as good as I've tried anywhere. The tour was brief, and only became truly informative when guests started asking good questions about ingredient selection and aging methods. Two things: I always find it strange when American breweries sell beer in four-packs instead of six-packs, which Allagash does, and the prices at the brewery seem to be slightly higher than at a retail establishment. 10 Portland Japanese Gardens
One of the most memorable afternoons I spent was walking around the Japanese Gardens. Beautiful, serene, and meticulously maintained. I only wish I could have spent more time, perhaps with a great book and a cup of tea. Show Less One of the most memorable afternoons I spent was walking around the Japanese Gardens. 10 Beautiful Place to Relax, Lots of Nature!
Whether you're a student at James Madison University or just visiting the Harrisonburg area-this is a great spot to check out. The Arboretum has a beautiful nature setting with gardens and pathways to walk through. The pond always has ducks and turtles and plenty of benches to sit down and enjoy the scenery. During certain seasons, they have horse carriage rides through the arboretum-very romantic! Also, many weekends they offer a plant and flower sale. Great for a break, for a picnic, or just for some good nature observing!
